Struggling with your image - in the face of family members, old friends, traffic accidents and (un)employment.

I wore my mother’s glasses
I hoped the glasses would help me see things her way
But the glasses just blurred my vision
So I stopped wearing them
I wore a pair of men’s cut pants
I wanted more room in the crotch area
The pants did give more room in the crotch area
But fit much too tight around my thighs
So I stopped wearing them
I wore a ring an ex-boyfriend had given me
But the ring would often get caught on things
Jerking my ringfinger painfully
So I stopped wearing it
I wore the had of a dead person that I had known
But whenever I sweat while wearing the hat
It would begin to smell and give me a headache
So I stopped wearing it
I wore my father’s jacket
It itched, I scratched, I got a rash
So I stopped wearing it
I wore a pair of earrings
Given to me by a heroin addict
But the earrings kept infecting my ears
No matter how much I cleaned them
So I stopped wearing them

I wore a medical alert bracelet
But it broke and flew off
When I was hit by a car

I wore a gracious smile at my last job interview
I got the job
But I stopped wearing that smile
After a few weeks on the job.
